Throughout all four years of high school, being a part of Green Team has given me a purpose that is bigger than myself. Millions of people around the globe are trying to protect the environment, and to be able to bring others into that initiative is very special to me. I like having a responsibility outside of basic schoolwork, especially one that works with a major interest of mine. The environment has always been important to me in some capacity, and Green Team has allowed me to not only spread that priority to others, but to learn along the way. Although I was teaching topics to others, I learned a lot beforehand, making it so much more memorable. I love knowing that even just one person will improve the world around them because of my team and I. Green Team has opened multiple doors for me such as Envirothon and AP Environmental Science, which are ultimately responsible for my career choice in soil science. Being a member of Green Team has inspired me to be better for the world around me, which makes it one of the most important things I've ever been a part of! Aside from my numerous encounters with animals (sometimes dangerous ones), my all-time favorite moment was getting to talk to NASA astronaut Christina Koch while she was in the International Space Station. Knowing she graduated from the same place that I will be graduating from was very inspiring. My hopes for Green Team are that it grows, and it creates more people that not only work towards an environmental goal but spread the importance of doing so. Being a part of the officer team has created many memorable experiences, and I can already say that it will impact the rest of my life. I appreciate all the officers I've worked with, and Mr. Dillman, who has supported my interest in soils from Day 1.

Being a part of the green team leadership has kept me involved with the school and the community to benefit through others through a group action. My favorite part of being an officer was I was given the opportunity to meet new people every meeting and bond with people I didn’t know. My favorite Green Team moment was on our officer trip when we had a snake in our tent. It really exemplified the entire trip and made for a funny story. I hope that my generation goes off into the world with high determination to turn around the way people treat our earth now. There is a lot of passionate and vocal people in Green team, I am hopeful they will use that to their advantage! Thanks to Dillman and my fellow officers for a good year in light of this year’s circumstances!

Green Team has always had a positive effect on me in many ways but especially this year. With the pandemic going on it has been hard on everyone in a variety of ways. Green Team has really been here for me to give me a positive perspective in such a negative time. Learning about the environment and what I could do to help it has informed me on many safe and fun activities I can do during this sad time to help the environment and to help me. Overall school Green Team has helped me become a better citizen and a better leader since the day I walked into my first meeting. The best thing about being an officer this school year is the synergy and relationships we have as a group. My favorite Green Team moment this year was actually being able to be in a classroom together. I know that sounds weird, but it is great knowing that through such a hard time we still made it through and stuck together! My hopes for Green Team next year are to hopefully expand and educate more people on how to help the environment.

Green Team has impacted my high school experience because it has allowed me to make many friends and have a safe place in high school where I can be myself and feel supported. The best part of being an officer during the 2020-2021 school year was building synergy with the team and being supported throughout such a tough year. My favorite Green Team memory from this year was our officer gift exchange where Dillman played Santa for all of us. I just want to say thank you to all the members and especially Dillman and the officers who have made learning fun and provided a community full of support. My hopes for Green Team next year are that the numbers will go up and we are able to hold more activities in meetings as well as activities outside of school.

Green Team has given me the opportunity to create new friendships and has equipped me with a variety of leadership skills. The best part about being an officer during the 2020-2021 school year is finding creative ways to adjust to the current situation. My favorite moment from Green Team from this school year was the Enviro-Pumpkin painting contest! I hope that next year we can have more out of school activities to help our community

AUBREY M. Green Team has had a positive impact on my high school experience by influencing my journey on being more Eco-Friendly and introducing fun activities as well as memories. I have also learned an abundance of things and been exposed to new things, such as beekeeping. The 2020-2021 school year had its challenges, and I'm very thankful that not only our advisor, Mr. Dillman, continued to push forward, but my fellow officers as well. I love the passion that flows in our club, it's what has kept us going. My favorite Green Team moment is anytime I get to hang out with the bees. I love Green Team so much. I can honestly say It has made me better myself, not just for me, but for my planet and fellow humans and other creatures. I exponentially continue to better my habits- from trying to shop at thrift stores, reusing anything and everything, attempting to DIY my own items, to even eating no meat! My eyes have been opened to a new world and I have gained many amazing qualities and experiences, I am even on my way to get my beekeeping certificate- and I can thank not only Green Team in its entirety, but Mr. Dillman, My fellow officers, the members, the officers and members from last year who were so kind and guided me my first year, and of course every member, officer and the founders of all the past years that are the foundation of this inspiring club. Next year, I would love to be able to get more hands-on in terms of being able to clean up our greenhouse. I would love to, even if it's more so a dream than a real functioning idea, start planting herbs or edible plants in there. Perhaps a school or community wide garden! A more realistic hope? I would love to just see a more "normal" functioning year- so I can exercise my duties as an officer without feeling limited. KARLEY LECH Green Team has had a positive impact on my high school experience so far by allowing me to participate and give back to the school and its activities. A lot is done within GT and it's really fun to learn and complete challenges, volunteer, create, and inform others about our earth and environment. The best part about being an officer during the 2020-2021 school year was that we were able to have something to stay connected with each other. Even if we couldn't do as many things together, being an officer kept us together and working actively with the challenges thrown at us from the pandemic. My favorite Green Team moment/memory from this school year is the activities, especially the officer Christmas party and the club-wide pumpkin contest tradition. Lots of fun and great competition! My hopes for Green Team next year is that we can do even more and have a more normal experience. Last year went really well for everyone until school went virtual, and we've done our best with it this year, and it's been pretty good. Considering. Next year should be even better!! |

I feel so incredibly priviledged to be apart of Green Team and help lead this group. Green Team has had such a positive impact on my high school career. It gave me a group where I can be passionate about the environment with people who are like-minded, as well as helping me step out of my comfort zone by forcing me to do public speaking and lead meetings. I have grown as a person throughout the work I have done in this club! My favorite memory from Green Team this year was the Officer Movie Night. This event was so much fun. Going to the pizza place afterward and just getting to sit and talk with all the other officers was such a treat. The officers are just all really kind and, at Green Team, you always feel welcomed. I really feel like I could see the progress we had made as a group over the past year at the event because of the way we all interacted with each other. My hopes for next year are that everything can go back to some sense of normalcy. I want to see full classrooms at meetings and take trips. This year we were had an extremely limited scope of what we could do, now that things are going back to normal who knows all of the great things we can accomplish together. I hope that next year will be the best year for Green Team yet!

Green Team has given me a place to be able to easily meet new friends. Although we had obstacles, I enjoyed planning our meetings. I really enjoyed the pumpkin painting competition I remember everyone jamming out to the monster mash which was fun. Next year, I hope we get a lot of new members and things are back to normal.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the annual Officer trip looked a little different for the Green Team. Yet, it was still just as fun! On July 25th, the new Green Team officers met up at Sturgeon City for a fun day of canoeing and learning about the environment. Every officer worked together with their partner to row their canoe together, making new friends and becoming better leaders. Afterwards, they had a picnic outside while they discussed the use of oysters for conservation and the hope for the future of the water and animals at Sturgeon City. Later that day, the officers got to look at the stars at an indoor planetarium.

During the start of 2021, COVD-19 restrictions started to loosen and groups were able to travel with permission granted by the school. As Green Team's first real out-of-school outing since the start of the pandemic, we all met up at the public beach access at Emerald Isle to help clean up the beach! The cleaning took place on a cold and windy day, but the members of Green Team walked the beach for two hours to help our local ecosystem.

Due to the updated cohort schedule, which split the school into two seperate groups that each attended schools during different parts of the week, our officers did not have the chance to bond as much as they would have during a typical school year. As things started to look up during the global crisis, the officers had a movie outing to see the animated movie 'Abominable'. Afterwards, they all ate pizza at a local pizzeria in town!

The theme for this Thursday's meeting was 'Surviving in Nature', topics included local wildlife and foraging for your own food! Members of Green Team ended the week by going on a nature hike at local park. Here the team members got to learn about all different types of foliage and animals that surround us everyday!

One thing every Green Team member looks forward to is the end of their senior year! Every member of Green Team that has achieved the specified requirements gets to put a painted tile on the roof of Mr.Dillman's classrooms, and recieves a personalized cord for graduation. The end of the year is also special for underclassmen who will recieve their yearly patch, those who recieved the patch have completed their service hours and gone to ten meetings during the year. The end of the year party is always fun because we get to celebrate what the past year has taught us and all of those who have contributed to Green Team in their four years of high school. We hope that every graduating senior continues to be an advocate for environmental awareness and strives to make a difference in their community and we hope that all of the current members will return for a wonderful new school year!
