Green Team has allowed me to make some of the closest friends I have! Not only did it allow me to make friends, but it also has allowed me to become more confident in myself and help me get over my fear of public speaking through doing presentations. Green Team has been my outlet and escape where I can be myself, support and emphasize a clean and healthy environment, and interact with other individuals who share similar passions and strive towards a better community/environment! My favorite part of being an officer in Green Team is the bonding experience and the people I have been an officer with. Being surrounded by individuals who strive for an eco-friendly environment has inspired me to promote eco-friendly options more strongly. I also enjoyed being able to partake in the planning process for our meetings and events and enjoyed watching our members participate and enjoy the things we have planned for them! I’m proud to say that I have been an officer in this 2021-2022 cycle because I was able to truly work with some of the most amazing and determined future leaders! My favorite Green Team memory is our canoeing officer bonding trip! I enjoyed hanging out and getting to know all the officers, but I will definitely say that I was way out of my comfort zone and scared after seeing some of the creatures in the water while we were in the canoe. I hope that Green Team continues to grow in the number of members so that we can spread environmentally friendly lessons towards more people. I also hope that Green Team is able to do more in the community and spread our projects beyond the walls of White Oak. I think being a member of Green Team will effect my own future because it instilled in me a firm belief in using eco-friendly resources, and doing things to protect our environment (like cleaning up litter.) In my future, I know that I will always follow these environmentally friendly habits that have been taught to me through my Green Team experience.

Green Team has helped me increase my social skills especially when it comes to presenting and talking to people I don't know. This club has given me connections and friends with people I never thought I would talk to. It has given me the chance to improve myself, clean the environment, and help others learn and be aware. My favorite part about being an officer is being involved in teaching others and spreading awareness. Not only does it give me an opportunity to clean the environment myself but now I get to help others who are interested as well. In order to change America into being more environmentally friendly we must spread awareness and I am so happy I get to do just that. I can only hope that everything we teach them that they use it and keep teaching others to keep the chain going. I am so happy that in being an officer I have also been able to be an advocate to clean the environment, take care of our animals and critters, and much more. There are so many green team meetings that it is extremely hard to choose one. If I have to choose one favorite memory it would probably be the summer camp we had summer of 2021. I loved this because it gave us a chance to take care of our environment, make new friends, and paint murals at the school to advertise what we are all about. This club left me with so many memories while at the same time I am doing something good for the earth. I hope they can do it again in the future so others can experience this as well. My hopes for Green Team in the future would be to help many more people learn about our environment and help inspire others to make a difference in our country. Being in Green Team definitely has changed my perspective on the environment as well as taught me how to take care of it. I will now in the future use what I have learned and treat our environment and animals with much better care. "If you are thinking about joining I would highly recommend it. This club has made my high school experience better with memories, learning new things, and increasing many skills I now have. There is not one bad thing I can say about Green Team and I think anyone would love being involved with this club!"

Green Team has had a positive impact on my high school career so far by allowing me to meet and interact with new people, present and work with dedicated officers, and encourage great causes to the school and community. It has been one constant throughout. The best part about being an officer during the 2021-2022 school year was exploring a different route than before and leading a meeting. My favorite Green Team moment or memory from this school year was officer bonding activities and hearing the new meeting topics and activities. My hopes for Green Team next year is to try new things and topics all while continuing great legacies.

Green Team has positively impacted my high school experience by improving my knowledge on enviromental issues, giving me several chances to make new friends, and providing a ton of voulnteer opportunities. I am so lucky to have a spot in my school where I can advocate for what matters to me, environmental wise. Running the Green Team Vegetarian Thanksgiving was my favorite part of this school year. I was able to discuss something extremely important to me (and a meeting that green team held in my freshmen year actually helped me go vegetarian). The best part was someone telling me afterwards that I taught them a lot and they switched to a plant based diet! Honestly, I love every meeting. I adore learning from my other officers, hearing questions from the club members, all of it. Green Team is a really special part of White Oak. Due to Covid, hurricanes, and whatnot I think that we have been lacking a bit in volunteering opportunities, but mostly our club member involvement. I hope for next year that we get lots of more involvement, more interaction between officers and club members, and lots more events all around!

Being in Green Team has been one of the highlights of my high school career. I was able to find a community that was made of some of the most supportive students I know who had a genuine passion for learning about the amazing world around us. Green Team is a place where you really feel like you belong and where you can be outwardly passionate about the things that you really care about, whether that be oyster restoration systems for oceans or the animals in your backyard. I am so grateful that I was allowed the privilege of being a Green Team officer throughout high school. Being in a leadership position was something that was a new experience for me and continuously pushed me out of my comfort zone. I have learned so much about team work, about growing a community, and, even, about my own abilities. It is amazing to get to work with people that have the same interests as you for an extended period of time. There are so many moments from Green Team that I have adored! I will never forget the Disney trip that I went on as a freshman in 2019. Although I was new to the club and to White Oak, Green Team instantly took me in and we all became so close and had so much fun. We were exhausted and exhilarated, so we really became a family. I also enjoy all of our little trips to the beach for a cleanup or dinner at pizza restaurants where we just sit and talk about our favorite superheroes. I hope that Green Team continues to grow and thrive. I hope that the leaders stay invested and that students remain inspired to have an impact on the world around them. Green Team empowers students and creates a community where they feel that they can make a difference, I hope that always stays the same. Green Team has taught me so much that I will take with me into my future. I will never lose my passion about caring for the environment and protecting the world around us and I will always try to help others see that their small, everyday actions can make a difference.

Every year for our Halloween meeting, Green Team hosts an environmentally themed pumpking decorating competition. This year our overall focus was the environment and environmental in our home state of North Carolina. Students went all out decorating pumpkins with beautiful mountain landscapes or pictures of the fascinating oceans of the North Carolina coast. The competition is fierce and fun. Pictured below are the winners from this school year!

Trash-A-Thon is a fun yearly Green Team experience that pushes all members of the club to a little friendly competition. Teams are tasked with cleaning up our campus and the things they find are quite incredible. The team that collects the most trash is the winner. This year our three-team winner, Kristina Coons, was finally dethroned as a new team took first place.
